  • Read a sentence and identify whether the sentence ends with a period or with a question mark.
  • Read a sentence and identify the noun, verb, pronouns, and adjective.
  • Read stories and answer questions about the characters and the events.
  • Identify whether sentences are written from the first-person or third-person point of view.
  • Choose between two words that would best complete a given sentence.


  • Look at a series of three numbers and place them in order from least to greatest.
  • Count money using pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.
  • Look at a picture of a clock and write down the time.
  • Compute single-digit multiplication problems, such as 6 x 10 = 60.
  • Look at a circle that is divided in half and identify its fraction.


  • Learn skills in collecting data by recording 10 ways in which members of their family use water.
  • Make inferences by examining and describing objects that may be familiar or unfamiliar to them.
  • Match the dinosaur fossils with the pictures that show how the dinosaurs might have looked.
  • Learn to measure the size of objects with a ruler.
  • Place in order the life cycle of a plant from seeds to pollination.


  • Read a paragraph about transportation and identify how transportation has changed over time.
  • Understand the purpose of holidays from other cultures, such as Cinco de Mayo or Kwanzaa.
  • Identify landmarks of the United States, such as the White House and the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Recognize the contributions of American Indians, such as the Powhatan of the Eastern Woodlands.
  • Recognize the contributions of key figures in American history, such as Martin Luther King, Jr.
